So, how's your heart? Did you know you - or anyone else for that matter - can check your heart condition simply by watching you and listening to the words that proceed from your mouth?
Jesus said in Luke 6:45, "A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of" (bold added).
In Acts 4 when Peter and John were commanded by the Sanhedrin not to speak or teach in Jesus' name, they responded with "Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God's sight to obey you rather than God. For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard" (verses 19-20).
We see here evidence that Peter's and John's hearts were consumed with the Lord Jesus Christ and what He had done in their lives. The same should be true of us.
When we begin to grasp who God is and all He has done for us as believers - saving us from eternal separation from Him, creating new life within us, reconciling us to Himself, and much more - we can't help but let it ooze out of our very being and desire that others know Him in this way as well.
So, remember what comes from our lips is a good indication of what's going on in our hearts. Rather than seeking to change our "language," we must ask God to first change our hearts and mold them to be more like His.
Watch the first 15 seconds of this clip from Facing the Giants for a funny reminder of how our attitude reflects our hearts. Watch the the rest of the clip to be reminded how our attitude impacts others.
